KTX bullet train services to and from Gangneung have normalized after a train derailed on Saturday, injuring over a dozen passengers.
According to officials, a train left Gangneung Station at 5:30 this morning and arrived in Seoul some two hours later while another train departed Cheongnyangni Station at 5:32 a.m. and arrived in Gangneung at an hour and 40 minutes later.
While KTX trains are now running on a normal schedule, Korail said trains are reducing speeds to 40 kilometers per hour near the accident site.
Early Saturday, the Seoul-bound train derailed just five minutes after departing Gangneung Station.
A joint team of transport ministry and KORAIL officials has tentatively concluded that an error in the railroad switch system that controls the tracks likely caused the accident.■
