 In 1950 the nationalists formed a mew organization, the singug Hyophoe, or the Council of New drama which developed into the shinhyop Theatrical Group of young dramatists.
In April of the same year the National Theater offered its first production, Won Sul-Lang by Yu Chi-Jin. The second premiere was that of Tsao Yu's modern Chinese drama A Thunder Storm. The quality of both presentations stood the test of critics and audiences alike as for as play, direction. and histrionics were concerned.
 Yet in spite of these catastrophic circumstances, a few korean playwrights were able to raise the voice of humanitarianism against the man-made inferon- Yu Chi Jin in I Will Be a Human . Too, Kim Chin Sui in out Of the Waste, Kim Yong-Su in seoul Under the Reds, and Han No-Dan in War and Flowers.
 The Shinhyop group, exclusive drama company of the National Theater, while still in refuge at the Moonhwa Theater in Taegu, presented in 1953 A Field Flower by Yun Beg-Nam. When in June 1957 the National Theater returned to seoul, the Shinhyop group was the only drama company in korea whose productions approached American or European standards.
 The student drama movement that started in 1959 was a new trend with far-reaching impact onthe contemporary theater of korea. It began on the campuses of Seoul National, korea, and Yonsei univeristies and resulted in the formation of the Experimental Theater Group.
 The korean Research Institute for Dramatic Art has a stimulating effect on theater arts in the country. especially by encouraging and advising potential dramatists. Sine its inauguration in April 1962. the leading playwrighis of korea have associated themselves with the Drama Center, which is equipped with all the facilities to serve as the headquarters of the korean drama movement.
 Yu Chi-Jin was appointed director of the Drama Center, of wich the first production was Shake-speare's Hamlet. Some other presentations of the Drama Center include Eugene O'Neills Long Day's Journey into Night, Dubose Heyward and George Gershwin's porgy and Bess, and Yu Chi-Jin's The han Flows.
The vitality of korean creative artists spirit was shown by the emergence of a new generation of dramatists who wrote their plays during and after the war. Noteworthy contributions to korean dramatic literature from these new playwrights include The Dream city by Choe Pom-Sog. The Engine Which Livers on Flowr petals by Im Hi-Je. The Ignored Ones by O Sang-Won. Free Marriage vy Ha Yu-Sang, The Well by Kim Hon-Gon. The Eclipse of Life by Gang Mun-Su. and The Family by Yi Yong-Chan
An examination of modern Korean authors' play-writing style and technique is now in order. Accolding to seoul drama critic Lim Young-Woong. Korean Drama can be classified into three categories. In the first category are those plays that are written in the traditional method. I Will Be a Humam, Too by Yu Chi-Jin is one of the representative works in this class. It deals with a composer who lice in North korea before the outbreak of the korean War. He has agonizing doubts about the communist society where man's freedom is denied and in desperation decides to go to seoul to find liberty. The weil-constructed play's theme is the revolt of an individual against forced regimentation of man's body and soul by the Marxists.
Han Ro-Dan's Interchange,another play in this category, is a domestic tragedy set in a seaside villa. Its story delineates the power of destiny. affecting the lives of the play's characters by the interchange of the Oedipus and Electra complexes. Also noteworthy is Tropical Fish by Cha Bom-Sog. a tragedy about race relations that starts to unfold when a family's eldest son returns from his studies in the United States with his Negro fiancee. whom he is determined to marry.
In the second category are plays that are composed in a new style or that imitate modern Western drama forms. According to Lim Young-Woong. the style of these plays is i marked contrast. with the dramas of the previous category.
Oh YongJin is considered one of Korea's most representative playwrights and one who always produces excellent works. though not frequently.
 His drama A Women Diver Goes Ashore is about a women who gets involved to the point of insanity in the confusion. intrigue. and wrangling that develops over the issue of how the inheritance bequeathed by a millionaire ought to ve divided. Te play expresses the author's contempt toward people who are obsessed by materialistic desires and bitterly the purity of human nature.
Another representative work of this category is Lee Gun-Sam's Lion's Share. sir.
The author is one of the few Korean playwrights who has a flair for comedy.
Lee has a talent to make the audience not only laugh but also think. The hero and narrator of Lion's Share. Sir is a simple clerk who.
when realizing that it is difficult if not impossible to succeed in life with sensible words and deeds. changes gis atti-tude and vecomes successful but. alas. unhappy.
An avant garde dramatist is young Kim Eui-Kyung. In his drama Deeper are the Roots (irugu-nally entitled song of Reeds). Kim portrays the distressing early life of a prostitute. To quote Lim Young-Woong. "the play is unique in that it ex-presses the writer's own protests against reality by means of bringing forth persons whom ge conceives into the society which he conceives without fixing any specific society and time. " This play stirred im-mediate interest in epic drama in the literary and theatrical circles of Korea

The student drama movement that started in 1959 was a new trend with far-reaching impact on the contemporary theater of korea. It began on the campuses of Seoul National, korea, and Yonsei univeristies and resulted in the formation of the Experimental Theater Group.

>> 이 범주에 속하는 또 다른 희곡인 한 노단의 "교류"는 어느 어촌에서 벌어지는 가정 비극이다. 이 이야기는 오이디푸스 컴플렉스와 엘렉트라 컴플렉스가 번갈아 일어나는 극의 인물들의 삶에 영향을 끼치는 운명의 힘을 다룬 내용이다. 또 다른 주목할 만한 작품은 차범석의 "열대어"이다. 이 극은 어느 한 가정의 장남이 결혼하기로 마음먹은 흑인 여성과 미국 유학길에서 돌아왔을 때 전개되기 시작하는 인종 편견에 대한 비극이다.

>> 이 두번째 범주에 속하는 또다른 대표작은 이근삼의 "국물 있사옵니다"가 있다. 이 근삼은 풍자에 대한 천부적인 감각을 지닌 몇 안되는 한국 극작가 중의 한 사람이다. 그는 관객을 웃게 할 뿐만 아니라 생각해 보게 만드는 재주를 가지고 있다. "국물 있사옵니다"에서 화자인 주인공은 출세를 위한 언변과 처세술이 없으면 인생에서 성공하기 어렵다는 것을 깨닫고, 태도를 바꾸어 성공에 이르지만 결국 불행해지는 소심하고 어수룩한 평범한 샐러리맨이다.
