Cleopatra was the daughter of the Pharaoh of Egypt. Her father was Ptolemy XII. She was the eldest child of the Pharaoh. When her father died, she became the queen of Egypt. Cleopatra was very smart. 클레오파트라는 이집트 파라오왕의 딸이다. 그녀의 아버지는 프톨레마이오스 다. 그녀는 파라오의 가장 어린딸이다. 그녀의 아버지가 사망했을때 그녀는 이집트의 여왕이 되었다.

클레오파트라는 매우 명석했다. 그녀는 9개의 언어를 말할 수 있었다. 또한 그녀는 그녀의 아름다운 미모로도 유명하다. 이번주에는 이 놀라운 여왕을 만나러 고대 이집트를 방문해보자.

Cleopatra was born in 69 BC in Alexandria. Alexandria was the capital of Egypt at the time. In 51 BC, her father passed away. Cleopatra inherited the throne of Egypt with her brother Ptolemy XIII. Cleopatra was 18 when she became the queen of Egypt. She ruled her country alone for 3 years. Her brother was pharaoh in name only. He remained in the background while Cleopatra ruled alone.

Ruling the country wasn't easy for the young queen. The Romans were conquering city after city. They were even beginning to gain control over Egypt when Cleopatra took the throne. Keeping the Romans from completely taking over her land was hard for her. She ruled until she was overthrown by one of her father's advisors. She was forced to leave Egypt and move to Syria. Her younger brother became the new ruler of Egypt.
나라를 통치한다는 것은 어린 여왕에게 여간 힘든일이 아니었다. 로마 사람들은 도시를 정복하고 있엇다. 심지어그들은 클레오파트라가 왕좌에 올랐을때 이집트를 장악하기 시작하였다.  로마 사람에게 이집트를 그녀의 손으로부터 지켜내는 것은 그녀에게는 너무나 힘든 일이었다. 그녀는 그녀의 아버지의 보좌간들 중 한사람에게 왕위를 찬탈 당하기 까지 통치했다.

그녀는 이집트를 떠나기를 강요당했고 시리아로 옮겨갔다. 그녀의 남동생은 이집트의 새로운 지도자가 되었다.

But Cleopatra didn't give up easily. She visited the Roman general Julius Caesar in Alexandria to make a plea to him. When Julius Caesar saw her, he fell in love with her. Her charm overtook the powerful Caesar. It was love at first sight.

그러나 클레오파트라는 쉽게 포기하지 않았다. 그녀는 로마장군 줄리어스 시져를 찾아가서 그에게 간청하였다.

줄리어스 시져가 그녀를 보았을때 그는 그녀와 사랑에 빠져버렸다. 그녀의 매력은 강력한 시저를 압도하기에 충분했다. 그는 그녀에게 첫눈에 반한것이다.

Cleopatra's brother Ptolemy XIII felt he had been betrayed. So he declared war against Caesar and his Roman army. Ptolemy XIII died in the war, and Caesar gained control of the throne of Alexandria. Caesar restored the throne to Cleopatra. She became the queen of Egypt again. Caesar and Cleopatra had a son together. But Caesar died a short time later.

클레오파트라의 오빠 프롤레미는 그가 배신당했다고 생각했다. 그래서 그는 시저와 그의 로마군대와의 전쟁을 선포하고 프롤레미는 그 전쟁에서 사망하였다. 그리고 시저는 알렉산드리아의 통치권을 장악하기에 이른다.

Upon his death, Rome began to divide. Cleopatra stayed in favor with the Romans so that they would not take the throne of Egypt away from her.
She supported Mark Antony when he prevailed as ruler of the Roman Empire. Cleopatra and Antony fell in love eventually. However, the Romans were not happy about their love. They felt he was giving away the Roman Empire to Egypt.

그의 죽음에 따라 로마는 분할되기 시작하였다. 클레오파트라는 그녀의 로마인들이 그녀의 왕좌를 찬탈하지 않도록  여전히 로마사람들의 편에 서 있었다. 그녀는 마크 안토니가 로마제국의 통치자로 이름나 있을때 그를 도와주었고 아침에 클레오파트라와 안토니는 사랑에 빠졌다 .그러나 로마사람들은 그들의 사랑을 달갑게 여기지 않았다. 그들은 안토니가 로마제국을 이집트에게 줘 버릴 것이라고 생각했다.

Fortune turned against them in 30 BC. Octavian was a man who was also in line for the throne of the Roman Empire. He was not fond of Mark Antony and Cleopatra.
So he declared war on Egypt. He defeated Mark Antony and then had Cleopatra arrested. Cleopatra died at the age of 39. She was the last Pharaoh of Egypt.
