Netflix And Chill

What Does 'Netflix And Chill' Say About The State Of Modern Dating?

It’s Friday night and you have no plans. You sent out a mass text to the boys. They came back with nothing. Then you called them. Still nothing. Everyone is staying in or they’ve got a date and all you’ve got is time on your hands.

The worst thing about all this time is you keep thinking about her. You saw her again last weekend. She was wearing those ultra-tiny denim shorts that leave nothing to the imagination but somehow you found yourself doing all sorts of imagining. Her name is Susan, but now she’s saved in your phone as “Denim Booty Shorts.”

You and Denim Shorts have been out a couple times but hardly something that she would consider an actual date. There was that time you met for coffee and that other time you met her downtown and hung out with a gang of her friends. She kissed you that night. Alcohol-fueled or not, she kissed you that night.

And you want to kiss her again — and probably a bunch of other stuff too. But it’s almost 10 p.m. now and you don’t get paid until next Friday. Plus, you’re not really thinking about a nice intimate dinner full of engaging conversation. You want to be alone with her. You also don’t want to talk much.

Just like that she sends you a text. Thank the dating gods you didn’t start swiping on Tinder yet.

“WYD?” she says.

You told her the truth. Absolutely nothing. She told you she’s bored and you are too and opportunities don’t present themselves this easily so you shoot your shot.

“Want to just come over, watch Netflix and chill?” you ask.

She knows what you mean and responds promptly and equally vaguely.

“LOL.”

So what do guys really think of Netflix and chill? We asked — and you answered:
