“It’s not just because of the weather conditions. The Holy Father seems to be in touch with more people,” said Father Hur Young-yup, the spokesman of the Committee for the Papal Visit to Korea.
Riding in a doorless car on his way to the stadium, the pope greeted the crowd outside the stadium, stopping several times to kiss and bless babies.
At 1:30 p.m., the pope is to have lunch with about 20 young Asian leaders from 16 Asian countries at Daejeon Catholic University. He will then head for Solmoe in Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province, where he will meet and address participants at the sixth Asian Youth Day.
Solmoe, which is Catholic holy ground, is the birthplace of Korea’s first priest Kim Tae-gon.
Asian Youth Day is the primary reason for the 77-year-old Argentine pontiff’s trip to Korea, his first outing to Asia since becoming pope in March last year. About 2,000 young believers from across Asia are gathered for this year’s festival. No pope has attended the event before.
The pontiff will return to the Apostolic Nunciature in Seoul, his home during the Korean trip, by helicopter.

오전 10:20 교황이 행사장으로 들어 오자, 스타디움은 "교황 만세"를 외치는 45,000명의 신자로 꽉칬다.

아시아 청소년의 날은 77세인 아르헨티나 출신 교황의 한국 방문의 주요 이유인데, 작년 3월 교황이 된 이후 첫 아시아 방문이다.
아시아 전역에서 약 2,000명의 청소년 신자가 올해의 축제에 모인다.
전에 교황이 이 행사에 참석했던 적은 없었다.
교황은 한국 방문중의 숙소인 서울의 주한 교황청 대사관으로 헬기로 돌아 갈 예정이다.
