 The likelihood that a particular stimulus receives attention is diminished as the number of stimuli competing for this attention increases. This finding is one reason (we’ll talk about the other reason in chapter 16) why clutter in the marketplace amplifies the challenge businesses face in courting consumers’ attention. Advertisers have entered all sorts of domains in their pursuit of less cluttered environments, such as elevators and bathroom stalls. Movie theaters have become increasingly popular with advertisers.
