The income gulf, which started to widen during the 1997-98 financial crisis, narrowed

somewhat in 2000 but has increased again. This is somewhat puzzling, given that the

Roh Moo-hyun administration's economic priority was on the better redistribution of wealth.

1997-98년의 재정공황동안에 넓어지기 시작한 수입격차는 2000년에 다소 줄어들었다가

다시 증가하였다. 이는 노무현 행정부의  부의 재분배 우선이라는 경제 정책에 비추어

보면 상당히 당황스러운 일이다.

The main reason is due to the deregulation of labor and capital markets. The former has produced more temporary workers with smaller wages, while the latter resulted

in many people striking it rich through speculation.

주요 원인은 노동과 자본시장의 자유화에 있다. 전자는 더 적은 임금을 받는

임시직원을 더 많이 만들어냈고 이에 반해 후자는 많은 사람들이 투기로 히트를 쳐서

때 부자가 되는 결과를 낳았다.

Those who made more than 500million won rose 23 percent in number in 2002, and those earning less than 10 million won also increased 10 percent. Almost one third of Korean families and more than half those in bottom 30 percent are suffering deficits as spending is exceeding income.

2002년도에 연간  오억원 이상 번 사람의 숫자가 23%나 올랐고 천만원 미만을 번

사람 또한 10% 증가했다.

한국의 가정의 3분의 1과 저변 30%에 해당하는 사람들의 반 이상이 지출이 수입보다

많은데서오는 척자로 허덕이고 있다.
